[Presentation] Peihang Li to Present at the 69th HFES International Annual Meeting
HiACE Lab PhD student Peihang Li, supervised by Dr. Nade Liang, was selected to present his research titled:
“Asymmetric Shifts in Risk Perception: Evaluating Driver Responses to Traffic Density Transitions.”
The lecture presentation was scheduled for the 69th Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) International Annual Meeting, held October 13–17, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois.
The study examines how drivers’ perceived risk evolves during transitions in traffic density and speed. Using simulated driving environments, the work found that perceived risk decreases rapidly when traffic becomes lighter, but rises sharply when density increases before gradually stabilizing. It also observed that reductions in speed can temporarily increase perceived risk.
These findings highlight the need for future traffic management systems and driver-assistance technologies to account for asymmetric changes in driver risk perception.
